I have read an article called, "The Master's as the New Bachelor's." This article was talking about how people in business when hiring people are now searching for employes that have a master's degree. It said that in some areas of work are looking for in a resume that a person has a bachelors, but a master's is preferred. I think the article is saying that as the years go on, America will require to have people with a master's degree in the future.
I think a bachelor's degree is worth less than it used to be in the past is because America has greatly advanced in technology. People are being forced to know more about computers and the inventions people have created. This forces a person to have to go to school longer.
Surprisingly, this article has not changed my views about the career I want to pursue later in my life. When i grow up, I want to be a marine biologist. I have to go to school for a long time and I am required to have a master's to even be able to work in that field. I know that this is what I want to be, so i've been doing everything I can to pursue my dream.
What I see as the goal for my education is to learn as much as I can; I would like to fill my brain with as much knowledge as possible about science, math, and about the ocean so that one day I will be able to make our oceans cleaner. I want to protect our ocean from being polluted. Many people don't know this, but our ocean is dying and we need to fix how we handle it because it is one of the world's biggest resource. We need to keep it clean because without it, the world would go down hill.
Here is another article that deals with the current state of higher education. http://www.educationbug.org/a/the-masters-degree.html
What I think is happening in the job market is that everything in the United States is advancing, which means we need a better knowledge of the things that are going on. With all these advancements, people are being forced to go to school longer because they need to expand on their knowledge. Thats what I think.
