Letter to Representative (:

Dear Senator,
Some recent events have led the government to create two new bills, SOPA and PIPA, to ensure and protect copyright owners. The government would have control over all the content on the Internet. I don’t think that these bills should be passed because the Internet is a place to be free and open with expression. To protect the Internet from being shut down, falsely accused, and overthrown, SOPA and PIPA should not be passed at all.
As an American, we have the right to the freedom of speech and press. The generation we live in now is heavily influenced by technology and the digital age. The Internet is a way to express ones self. The bills SOPA and PIPA would shut down any site that has a copyright infringement, whether they mean to or not. There are sites that are very popular that have the money and are safe from copyright problems, but other small, unpopular sites will suffer the punishment because of these bills being passed. In order to protect the rights of these small websites, people need to oppose the passing of SOPA and PIPA.
Websites often feature various ads in order to maintain their status.  This allows a site to be open to viewing, posting, and editing information; however, many sites have no control over the content posted by consumers and advertisers.  This danger could lead to false accusations against small websites that cannot control content.  The Internet is meant to be free and open, but SOPA and PIPA would allow mainstream, or basically rich, websites to run, while privately ran websites take the rap.  In order to ensure equal rights of Internet use, SOPA and PIPA must not pass.
There are all alternatives that could protect consumers and copyright owners alike.  SOPA and PIPA could be revised to allow small websites leeway in terms of user-posted content and advertisement.  Foreign sites would be at risk as well; therefore, these bills should protect against the possible blockade of these sites.  All consumers deserve the open and free Internet, and the laws should be made in interest of all consumers.  Another solution could include producing copyright laws in regard to the Internet.  SOPA and PIPA should not be passed without revisions or replacements in order to insure the free and open nature of the Internet.
Senator Paul, oppose SOPA and PIPA to ensure the rights of the citizens you represent.  Consumers have the right to freedom of press, including the massive Internet.  User-created content cannot be liable means to shut down a website.  False accusations would definitely occur with the current means of advertising, especially for small sites.  Oppose SOPA and PIPA to ensure the rights of both consumers and website operators.  Vote for the revision of these bills, as well as the introduction of new bills.  Protect consumers from future problems, and oppose SOPA and PIPA.
